ABOUT THE CLASS

The thought of sticking needles in someone's face should bring a certain amount a fear to anyone wanting to learn this profession, to say the least!!! That's a good sign. It means that you are serious about wanting to get the best education you can when it comes to performing Permanent     Cosmetics. That's a great way to guarantee that you are going to start out on the right foot in your career. That is why I spent a fair amount of time doing what you are doing right now. Checking out all the schools and instructors to make sure I found the right one. I was lucky to find one of the best in  this field in Alexis Lawson, from Softap. And I flew to California to attend her class. It was one of the last classes she taught, before dedicating all her time to her company to make it the success it is today. I then went on to train with Sandi Hammonds, from Premier Pigments. That, combined with 9 years of experience is what I bring to my students. Experience is the key to success. There is a lot of technical information in the training manual. But, unfortunately, it won't tell you the pitfalls, the war stories, the wrong turns, and mishaps that can occur. I try to include this as much as I can, as I feel that this is just as important as the technical aspects of learning Permanent Cosmetics.

Secondly, I try and teach the "natural" end of enhancement and definition, rather than "make up." Natural, looks as real as it can get, as opposed to overdone or "fake" which is every client's biggest fear. A lot of client's come in wanting EYELINER, and leave with a very natural EYELASH ENHANCEMENT which makes the eyes "come alive." Of course, there will be some client's that  insist on a very heavy make up look. As long as it is a realistic expectation, I will do it. But it wouldn't be the first time, if I politely declined the client's request, if I think it is for the wrong reason. Like I have said, there is a lot to learn in the 60 hour curriculum! I once did a client's request for Ruby Red Lips, Heavy Eyeliner,  & Eyebrows, just like Marilyn Monroe. I normally would not have done this, but as it was, she did a Marilyn Monroe show in the Catskills, 5 nights a week! So I though that was appropriate.

Lastly, I try and steer my students towards looking at Permanent Cosmetics as a professional service, not something to be done in the salon, or tattoo parlor (not that there is anything wrong with salons, or tattoo establishments!). But more in the Doctor's Office and Day Spa environment. New Jersey has done an incredible job in elevating Permanent Make Up to a Professional Status in making it a regulated field. I think that's where it should be, especially with the increase of MEDICAL TATTOOING. I hope New York, Pennsylvania, and Connecticut will follow in the coming years.
